Homeowners living in the same locality in urban settings often join to form homeowner’s associations. These associations not only look after the rights of the homeowners but also ensure that any complaints from them are listened to and addressed immediately.
Every homeowner’s association has a board of directors that governs the running of its operations and ensures that all the rules of community living outlined in the policy documents are followed. The board usually consists of 3 to 5 members. These are the Head of HoA, the secretary of the homeowner’s association, and finally the treasurer. These members are elected by the homeowners through an election. The exact procedure for these elections is written in the policy of the HOA board.
When someone intends to run for an HOA board, they usually write a letter of intent addressed to the Head of the board but also aimed at everyone in the community so that they know what the options for the HOA board are. The person writing the letter can run for one of the three or five positions available on the board of directors. In this letter of intent, they would give a brief introduction.
They will mention how long they have been living in this society. They can also mention the problems or issues they see in the community which need to be addressed and which made them feel the need to run for a post on the HOA board.
They would clearly mention what post they intend to run for. They would also try to explain why they feel that they are eligible for running for this post and what difference they can make in this position.
I (name) am a member of this community for the last 10 years. I have been living at (address) since (year). In all this time I have seen the effective role that the homeowner’s association board has played in the community.
A lot of problems or issues faced by the homeowners have been resolved amicably and to the satisfaction of all parties by the board. However, recently I have seen a spate of issues that we are facing as a community and despite frequent complaints, they have not been resolved.
I intend to run for the post of secretary of HoA. I feel that I can offer a lot in this position as I am a part of the community being aware of the problems we are facing, and I have some ideas which I am sure would go a long way in resolving these issues.
One such issue is littering. Our parks used to be our pride and we were known in the city for the beautiful recreational parks and jogging tracks our community offered but now the condition of our parks and recreational spaces has started deteriorating due to littering and non-maintenance.
Similarly, another issue is wrong parking. It is becoming increasingly common that visitors to the park or people who come for jogging park their cars improperly and block the entrance to houses causing inconvenience to the homeowners. Quite a few incidents have taken place where things have escalated, and an argument turned into a fight.
I intend to address these issues by imposing heavy fines for littering, organizing cleanliness drives, and having community watch. Posting guards who would ensure that the parking is done on proper parking spots only would resolve the parking issue.
Also, wherever proper parking space is not available, I intend to create some parking so that people have a proper place to park their vehicles while they jog or their kids enjoy the park. I have many other plans for the improvement of the community, and I am sure that I can bring a lot of positive change if given the chance.
I have been a resident of this community for the last (number) years. I have seen this community grow and flourish in these years. Our community, once known for its safe and secure environment has now become the target of frequent robberies.
A couple of these even turned violent and the homeowners got injured. The conditions have worsened to the point that despite paying the housing society a monthly maintenance allowance which includes charges for security, people are forced to keep private guards and install electrical wire fences. People feel that it is not fair as already a hefty sum is being paid for security.
I have been working as a security consultant in a multinational company for the last (number) of years and with my experience and expertise, I feel that I can contribute much to improving this situation.
It is due to this reason that I intend to run for the head of the HoA board in the coming elections. I feel that this is the most pressing issue at hand which needs to be addressed as soon as possible and in the strictest possible manner.
I intend to improve the community’s existing security force to the point that there is no need for private guards. Security patrols on bikes and the installation of CCTV cameras at all crossroads are some of the things I plan to do. I am sure that I will be given the chance to run for this post.
